Lemonheads candy. Tart and yummy, unfortunately not a substitute for actual lemons. That’s why when life hands me (organic) lemons I juice them and make ice cubes, then add a few to my water to reap all kinds of health benefits (no pucker face necessary).
Organic lemons are a fantastic detoxifier. An ice cube dropped in a glass of water stimulates the liver and gallbladder to release toxins. It also hydrates and stimulates the lymphatic system, which is good since it removes cellular waste from the body. And in a society where poisonous food, water, and air are the new norm, eating foods that support detoxification is more important than ever. Effects of stimulating these cleansing organs include, more energy, better digestion, glowing skin, a stronger immune system, and increased metabolism for weight loss.
In researching the numerous benefits of lemon water I was surprised to learn that it helps with inflammation. It does this by helping to neutralize harmful acids produced by eating processed foods, sugar, high protein, and even exercising intensely! Why do I care about managing inflammation? For one, too many doctors and nutritionists believe that the quality of food we eat directly impacts inflammation levels in our bodies. And second, there is even more and more expert talk on the link between a crappy, processed diet and an increased rate of virtually all diseases including autism.
Another major benefit of neutralizing harmful acids with an ice cube or two a day of organic lemon juice is proper pH balance in the body.

Lots of people have had great results replacing coffee and other sources of caffeine with a glass of warm lemon water first thing in the morning. Why this seems to work for numerous people is a mystery, but I think it has to do with getting up and doing something other than getting coffee first thing. Plus, using something besides coffee to hydrate and get the bodily systems going in the morning is proof that maybe we aren’t as dependent on caffeine as we think.
A glass of organic lemon water in the morning also freshens breath, curbs the appetite, and gives your immune system a boost. With even more health benefits not listed here, it should be no secret that consuming organic lemon ice cubes is a smart step on your journey toward total wellness.
